ABOUT: When the COVID-19 pandemic hit around mid-March 2020, the police/law enforcement were considered essential employees and heroes. They were in the same groups as truck drivers, medical personnel, grocery store workers, etc who were all working during this unknown time. Many CPD police districts were getting meals and PPE donated to the day and afternoon shifts. The PPE was hand sanitizer, gloves, and masks. Many businesses and citizens donated meals and PPE to police to show their appreciation for being on the front lines.
I was working midnights in a SouthSide district and noticed that the midnight shifts were often forgotten about when it came to meals and PPE. My wife and I decided to donate meals and PPE to midnight shifts. With the help of donations and several businesses (see below), we were able to provide meals for several midnight shifts (see list below).
After Memorial Day, there were Nationwide protests against the police. The police were no longer considered the heroes that they were just a month or two ago. CPD had numerous days off cancelled and were put on 12 hour shifts. My wife decided to start OPERATION: BLUE BAG. This idea was to show officers that the silent majority still appreciates their service.
Through fundraising, donations, help from friends and family, we were able to get: snacks, PPE, water, Gatorade, thank you notes, etc to put in blue bags to give out to the officers (see list below where bags were handed out).
